Babak Khalili
Babak is a multi-disciplinary artist and currently Master's student in the MADTech program at the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen. With a background in design and motion design from Iran, his practice is rooted in a long-term immersion in digital tools — a process he views as a meditative act of self-observation and imaginative discovery.
His work functions as a continuous autobiography, a space where self-expression and lived experiences are meticulously deconstructed. By constantly looking back at time and his own history, Babak treats technology not merely as a tool, but as a lens to examine the intricacies of human presence. Central to this exploration is the use of personal data; he views these digital archives as "footprints", vital traces of personal life information, which he transforms into core artistic materials to represent his unique perspective on everyday life.
By recreating these lived experiences through data-based artworks and immersive environments, Babak seeks to trigger specific emotional and intellectual responses in his audience. His work serves as an invitation for viewers to reflect on certain narratives and pause within shared human struggles.
This journey is defined by an intentional loop of "knowing of not knowing." By actively embracing uncertainty and stepping beyond the boundaries of his comfort zone, Babak dives into the unseen and the unproven. He creates experiential spaces where his internal self-reflections meet the viewer's own perspective, fostering a profound moment of recognition and connection within the unknown.
